PEAK Family Tutor

United States - Full Time

About Rocky Mountain Prep (RMP)

We are Rocky Mountain Prep, a movement comprised of incredible educators, families, scholars, and advocates who are changing the face of public education in Colorado by democratizing college access and preparation for historically marginalized students and families. On paper, we are a network of twelve college preparatory charter schools in the Denver metro area serving students as young as twelve weeks through twelfth grade. But we are so much more than this.

The RMP community is filled with staff, students, and stakeholders who are motivated by our pillars of rigor and love, live daily by our PEAK values, and believe deeply in the power and potential of every student we serve. We aspire to be the highest-performing school system in Colorado. We will grow to serve students in many communities who need more seats in schools that provide rigorous and loving college preparatory options.

Why We Need YOU

Our students don’t have time to lose as they learn to read. PEAK Family Tutors will be important partners in ensuring every child has the skills they need to succeed. We are looking for individuals who know our students best (families, caregivers, local alumni, and community members) to close the literacy gap and change the lives of our 3rd-8th grade students reading below grade-level.

What you will be doing:

Tutors will work with small groups of 3-5 students, in person, during the school day at one of our 5 RMP elementary campuses. In addition to helping our students, becoming a PEAK Tutor also means that you will have opportunities to grow in your career or education within or outside of RMP.

High-Dosage Tutoring and Assessments

  • Deliver tutoring sessions to small groups of 3rd-8th grade students or one-to-one throughout the school day
  • Create a positive learning space that helps students stay engaged and grow in reading
  • Work with teachers, coaches, and school leaders to track student reading progress, set goals, and adjust support based on student’s needs
  • Assess students in the fall, winter, and spring and use these results to guide your tutoring

Participate in coaching, training, and professional learning opportunities

  • Engage in feedback and goal-setting conversations with your Coach to continue developing your skills
  • Join training sessions to review data, plan lessons, and share ideas with your team

What experience you will bring to us:

  • Strong desire to support our elementary students: You are eager to help students and close the literacy gap
  • Team player: You build positive relationships with others and are ready to support your teammates
  • Lifelong Learner: You have a passion and belief that everyone can learn to read, including yourself!
  • Ready to grow: You are always looking to better yourself and your community. You are open and accepting of feedback from coaches and staff to improve your tutoring skills!
  • Fluency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English to help students with their work
  • Ability to travel between sites and/or to off-site events. Tutors will be placed in schools with the most need. Although we will try our best to accommodate your preferences, we cannot guarantee you will be placed in your child’s school.
  • Ability to work 40 hours a week during the standard full-day school schedule from arrival to dismissal

What required skills and qualifications you need for this role:

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • Speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
