Manager of Payroll and Compensation Services
Opportunity
Member of Rocky Mountain Prep’s (RMP)Finance and Planning Team. Reporting directly to the senior director of strategy, the payroll manager will play a critical role in ensuring the organization's financial reporting health. The Payroll Manager will manage the payroll process, partner with the Human Resource and payroll service providers, ensure the organization’s compliance with the requirements from the IRS and the states’ tax departments, streamline the payroll process to reflect the adjustments promptly and accurately, and assist with the annual financial audit.

The Payroll Manager will provide:
- Payroll Processing and Record Maintenance
- Gather payroll information from the Human Resources Department with approval and audit backup
- Payroll and audit record keeping
- Stipend/bonus information and paperwork maintenance
- Personnel onboarding and offboarding record keeping, salary/stipend/benefit proration
- Overtime tracking and processing
- Hourly employee time tracking and payments
- Campus teacher sub tracking and payments
- Manage payroll setup for garnishment orders
- Submitting 401 (k), HSA, and PERA contributions
- Keep the error rate under 1% of the total payroll checks processed
- Timely review of annual W2 preview forms to ensure accuracy before finalizing
- Maintain the confidentiality of all payroll-related information
- Payroll Reconciliation and Reporting
- Monthly payroll reporting and variance analysis for budget monitoring
- Monthly payroll data reconciliation and audit to ensure data accuracy
- Preparing payroll data/analytics for auditors during the interim and annual audit
- Providing the Accounting Department with payroll-related billing details
- Prepare monthly payroll review notes and month-to-month comparison analytics for significant payroll changes
- Working with tax departments and payroll vendors for out-of-state employees regarding tax accounts, reporting requirements, and other related responsibilities.
- Identify opportunities to reduce payroll errors and provide recommendations to continuously streamline and improve the payroll process based on the analysis.
- Partnership with Human Resources, Payroll System Provider, and PERA
- Routine communication with the Human Resource department to align payroll info regarding employee onboarding, termination, and adjustments accurately and promptly
- Routine communication with the Payroll system vendor for problem-solving and requesting payment backup paperwork
- Primary point of contact with Payroll System Provider to ensure full functionality of the payroll system
- Timely communication with Colorado PERA on mandatory annual reporting requirements and payroll adjustments.
- Customer Service
- Address issues and questions regarding payroll from current and previous employees
- Supplemental payroll processing

Required Competencies
- Expertise and proven track record in domains such as: Payroll, Reconciliation, Governmental Accounting, and Internal Controls;
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; comfortable presenting and facilitating periodical updates to the direct manager and senior financial leaders;
- Collaboration skills to work with Human Resources and external payroll service providers to provide solutions;
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence others by interacting with various stakeholders in respectful ways that build credibility for self, the finance and planning team, and the division of Organizational Impact;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with multiple internal and external stakeholders;
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
Required Experience and Education
- 3+ years in payroll; experience in an organization with multiple divisions;
- Experience in K-12 public education required; school and/or CMO/District experience strongly preferred;
- Bachelor’s degree with applicable professional licenses and certifications;
Compensation
Salary for this role is $74,000 to $84,000 commensurate with the experience and scope of responsibilities outlined within this job description.
This is a Full-Time, benefits-eligible position. The nature of the work is hybrid (in office/work from home) with a preference for candidates based in Denver, Colorado.
