Our Approach to Early Childhood Special Education
At Rocky Mountain Prep, Early Childhood Special Education is a team effort to ensure that every child, including those with disabilities, can learn, grow, and thrive. Our Model 1 classrooms are inclusive spaces where paraprofessionals, educators, and families work together to provide responsive, high-quality early learning experiences. As a paraprofessional in this setting, you are a core member of a three-person team consisting of a certified ECSE teacher and a second paraprofessional. Your daily work ensures that each child receives the individualized supports, care, and dignity they deserve. Through consistent routines, visual and sensory supports, and responsive communication, you help every child build independence, confidence, and a strong foundation for future learning.
Model 1 Paraprofessionals at Rocky Mountain Prep will...
- Collaborate daily with the ECSE teacher and co-paraprofessional to implement differentiated instruction and IEP-aligned supports.
- Use tools such as visual schedules, sensory materials, and augmentative communication devices to support student engagement and access.
- Provide personal care to students, including toileting, diapering, feeding, hygiene, and mobility support, using appropriate lifting and health protocols.
- Reinforce classroom routines, behavior expectations, and social-emotional learning with warmth, consistency, and high expectations.
- Supervise students across various school settings including the classroom, transitions, meals, and outdoor play to ensure safety and inclusion.
- Support assessment, documentation, and data collection for IEP goals and behavior plans as directed by the ECSE teacher.
- Maintain adaptive equipment and classroom materials, and assist in daily setup and cleanup to ensure a safe and organized environment.
- Communicate professionally with team members and families, upholding confidentiality and student dignity.
- Participate in professional development, coaching, and required training, including those related to health supports and behavior intervention.
